Hey, she wrote to me, I replied. I actually admired that she sought me out despite my pretty vocal criticism of them. One must respect cojones when one finds them …

Oh, no criticism implied, my friend. Just surprise — but good-o on her, both for recognizing a great blog and also in having, as you say, the cojones to beard a critic.

I actually reminded her that I’d roughed them up quite a bit; she was undeterred. Nathalie has an interesting take at Galleycat.

I saw Nathalie’s post, which made me laugh (all the links to litbloggers bashing the Book Babes), as well as her interpretation at the end of what’s-her-face’s motivation for drawing the enemy near, as it were.
I say “what’s her face” as I can’t keep them straight. I’ve tried but can’t. They’re worse than the Olsen twins.

The ruse has worked. After months of planning, Mark’s scheme to take over the universe is now well under way. I shall be lieutenant and govern Australia. Ron shall rule South America. And Golden Rule Jones will have most of Asia, as well as several South Pacific islands.

Bad news Ed, during your brief time away Gwenda and CAAF moved right on in all of your turn – the blog, something about some rights to a play, and they’ve split the area down under – Gwenda rules Australia and CAAF gets New Zealand!

Well, I’m not willing to fight Justine for Australia (totally yours, sweetie, and besides you understand the rules of cricket).
I think small, so I claim: Kentucky and Hawaii. I believe having volcanoes under one’s control is an undeniable advantage in life.
But that still leaves Ed with new claim to stake… that’s what flirting with abandoning the faithful leaves you.

See, and I just want an island with some awesome biodiversity (hence New Zealand is not as exciting). I will claim Wisconsin and, well, I was going to go for Hawaii, but seeing as that has already been claimed for Bondugal, I will try for some other island. Maybe the Galapagos? Easter Island? Treasure Island?

Mark, if you’re not too busy with all the ruling and divvying up, if you could save Detroit for me I’d really…What? No other large bids have come in for my hometown? I’m shocked, perhaps even stunned a bit. My first act once you give me such powers will be to boot General Motors out of the Renaissance Center and allow emerging writers (you expected something else?) to inhabit one office apiece. Some will be lucky and overlook the Detroit River and across to Windsor. Others I expect will learn to write of somewhat gritty landscapes.
Enjoy,

As long as we’re allowed to visit each others lands freely, I don’t see why we can’t divvy up the Hawaiian islands — as long as I get the Big Island.

Dan, I like the Detroit Writing Retreat, esp. as I feel writers flourish when they have only barren, miserable, rusted-out landscapes to consider. Yaddo, Provincetown = too pretty by half, I say.
Gwenda, as long as I get a volcano I am fine with one of the smaller islands. I really don’t have enough furniture to fill up a big island anyway. Still, I remain torn: It occurs to me that Coney Island would also make a pleasant fiefdom.

Gwenda: Didn’t I have the Big I guaranteed, pursuant to the Cloud Atlas Clause in that agreement we all signed at Versailles? As to current developments, well, if that’s the case, what do we all do about the Howard clone I have governing Australia right now? I guess we need three supervillains to escape from The Phantom Zone and put things into perspective.
